1. What is storm water?

2. How does storm water get polluted?

As storm water flows over our lawns and driveways, it picks up fertilizers, oil, chemicals, sediments, grass clippings, litter, pet waste, and anything else in its path. The storm drain system then transports these pollutants, now in the water, to local lakes and streams. Anything that goes into a storm drain eventually ends up in a lake or stream.

3. What is polluting our storm water?

Pollutants from the roadways, lawns, construction sites, and carelessly discarded trash (cigarette butts, paper wrappers, and plastic bottles, etc.), when deposited into nearby storm water sewers, can impair the waterways, thereby discouraging recreational use, contaminating drinking water supplies, and interfering with habitat for fish and wildlife.

Storm water pollution is caused by the daily activities of people everywhere. Practice healthy habits will help to keep common pollutants off the ground and out of storm water. Access valuable information and programs activities for water quality by visiting these websites.

1. How many acres of land are needed to own a horse?

A horse is considered a hoofed animal. Article 5-Section 500-c of our zoning ordinance states that 5 acres are needed for the first animal and an additional 1 acre for every additional animal. Please view the Article 5-Section 500-c (PDF).

2. Does Lenox Township have municipal water and sewer?

The southeastern sections of the Township and the Gratiot Corridor have water and sewer service. The remainder of the Township is serviced by septic fields and wells maintained by the property owners.

3. Where are the Township Offices located?

The Township Hall is located on the west side of Gratiot between 29 and 30 Mile Roads. The Fire Department Station #1, The Department of Public Works and the Richmond Lenox EMS. Station 3 are located on the east side of Gratiot, just north of 27 Mile Road. The Fire Department Station 2 is located on the south side of 32 Mile Road, just east of Lowe Plank Road.

4. Is there garbage pickup in Lenox Township?

At this time the Township provides the Garbage pickup to residential parcels.

5. Are permits needed?

Yes, permits are needed for most structures, ponds, pools, hot tubs/spas, burning etc. Please contact the Township Building Department for more specifics.

6. Does the Township have a park and where is it located?

The Township does have a park, it is located behind the Township Hall on Gratiot. Our park has many amenities. Lenox Township Park

7. How many acres of land are needed for a pond?

Article 3 - Section 333 of our zoning ordinance states that 2 acres are needed. Ponds are permitted in the AG and RL Districts. There are many regulations for ponds in Lenox Township, please see the ordinance link for specifics.
